From Rejuvenation to Imperfection Removal: Types of Lasers in Aesthetic Medicine

From facial rejuvenation to the elimination of imperfections and skin irregularities, there are various types of lasers used in aesthetic medicine to treat different skin problems. These lasers are selected according to the specific treatment objective and the patient's skin type. Among the most prominent lasers in aesthetic medicine are:

  • Q-Switch Nd:YAG Laser: This type of laser is ideal for tattoo removal. Q-Switch Laser It emits a light whose energy is absorbed by the pigment without damaging the epidermis. This light energy is converted into heat in fractions of a second, causing the ink molecules to fragment. Subsequently, these particles are eliminated by the body through the action of cells called macrophages, thus achieving the gradual disappearance of the tattoo. The number of sessions required may vary depending on the size of the tattoo, the color, and the amount of ink.

  • Neodymium YAG (Nd:YAG) laser: It is one of the most widely used treatments for varicose veins and spider veins. It works by coagulating the blood vessel, allowing the body to eliminate it naturally. It is especially effective for facial telangiectasias, particularly in the nasal area, where other systems like IPL may have limitations. Its 1064 nm wavelength makes it particularly useful for penetrating biological tissues and treating various vascular disorders. In some cases, the treatment of varicose veins in the lower limbs can be combined with techniques such as sclerotherapy to improve results.

  • Fractional CO₂ laser: It is a non-surgical treatment designed to address multiple skin concerns such as wrinkles, fine lines, pigmentation, sagging, and scars, among others. It can be applied to various areas, including the face, neck, eye area, lips, arms, and jawline. Its technology allows for deep and controlled penetration, generating micro-thermal lesions that stimulate skin regeneration. This process activates collagen production and promotes cell renewal, resulting in brighter, more even-toned, and rejuvenated skin over time.

It's important to consider that before undergoing any laser treatment, you should consult a professional to ensure it's the right treatment for your specific case. The choice of laser will depend on factors such as the type of skin condition, the patient's skin tone, and, of course, the doctor's assessment and judgment. Furthermore, it's crucial to follow post-operative recommendations to minimize risks and accelerate the recovery process.
