What is a Neodymium-YAG laser?
Dr. Javier Pérez tells us about the Neodymium YAG Laser.
An Nd:YAG laser is a solid-state laser device that emits a variety of garnet. Its characteristic emission has a wavelength of 1064 nanometers, meaning it emits in the infrared region. The Neodymium-YAG laser is best suited for treating varicose veins and spider veins. It works by coagulating the blood vessel so that the body can eliminate it naturally. For removing varicose veins in the legs, the most effective treatment is the use of the Neodymium-YAG laser and sclerotherapy.
Vascular lesions are normal veins that have become dilated under the influence of increased venous pressure.
It is also ideal for facial telangiectasias, especially those around the nose, where applying the light guide of IPL applicators can be difficult. Venous lakes are easy to treat thanks to the circular spot size of the Nd:YAG laser. Furthermore, the Nd:YAG laser is also used for port-wine stains that are resistant to IPL or pulsed dye laser.
