“The new trend in skincare is based on the active ingredients in each product. Beyond gender, wrinkles, or sagging skin, the focus is on finding effective components suited to each skin type.”
The skin's primary function is to act as a barrier against environmental aggressors. According to the Dr. Miguel Aguilar Bernier, dermatologist at the Premium Clinic in Marbella, Vitamin C influences the organization and accumulation of phospholipids, which promote the formation of the stratum corneum (the skin barrier). “Vitamin C helps heal wounds, synthesizes collagen, and provides antioxidant protection against sun damage, thus helping to slow premature aging,” explains Aguilar Bernier, who clarifies that while consuming fruits and vegetables is essential for maintaining optimal levels of this vitamin, so is using appropriate cosmetics. “It shouldn't be used with acids (AHAs or hyaluronic acid) because they would alter the pH of the dermis and, in most cases, cancel out the effect of vitamin C,” she warns. Therefore, for better results from both active ingredients, it's ideal to apply them at different times of the day. “And use formulas with liposomal vitamin C so it doesn't turn brown.”.
