“In winter, the low temperatures help the skin recover better from any cosmetic medical treatment or procedure, since some procedures can cause temporary swelling or bruising that is easier to conceal in winter when the body is more covered up. Conversely, in summer, these effects can be more visible.”
Among the most recommended medical treatments to undergo during the winter, Dr. Javier Pérez Diez, aesthetic physician at Clínica Premium Marbella, recommends:
Chemical peel
Outpatient procedure consisting of the controlled application of keratolytic substances, usually acids (glycolic, salicylic, pyrulic, trichloroacetic, phenol, …).
Achieve an improvement in aged or altered skin surface thanks to the elimination or reduction of wrinkles, scars, blemishes, acne, etc.
After the peel, and while the removed layers regenerate, the skin loses its ability to insulate itself, is more prone to dehydration, and has less ability to defend itself against bacteria and/or external aggressions.
After treatment, for superficial peels, it is recommended to use soothing and moisturizing creams for two or three days. For medium or deep peels, very mild soaps or cleansers are used in combination with specific creams containing antibiotics and, in some cases, corticosteroids. Sun protection should begin as soon as possible, once the skin has re-epithelialized.
It is indicated for those who want to improve some aspect of the skin, who understand the procedure and the expected results.
It should be avoided in patients with infectious or inflammatory skin processes or with a tendency to produce keloids or hyperpigmentation.
CO2 Laser
Non-surgical treatment designed to address various skin problems: wrinkles, expression lines, pigmentation, moles, scars, sagging, etc. The CO2 laser beam has the ability to penetrate much deeper than other lasers and allows for a more definitive effect.
It can be performed on areas such as the face, neck, under the eyes, upper lips, arms and jaw area.
Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes, although an anesthetic cream must be applied beforehand to minimize discomfort during the treatment. Usually, only a tingling sensation is felt when the laser light is applied.
Following the treatment, depending on the intensity applied, skin redness is common for up to 48 hours. After a week, the skin begins to appear firmer and stronger, and this improvement will continue for the next six months.
The number of sessions required will depend on the diagnosis, but to obtain effective and lasting results, at least 2-3 sessions are needed.
Laser lipolysis
It is a therapeutic tool that offers an advanced, safe, effective and minimally traumatic solution to eliminate fat while tightening the skin.
It is recommended for patients with small to moderate amounts of fat, with or without associated sagging. Its results are excellent on skin that is difficult to tighten, and on devitalized skin such as the abdomen after pregnancy or the inner thighs.
Buttocks, saddlebags, inner thighs, knees, ankles, arms, abdomen, neck, and double chin are the most suitable areas. It is also used to correct previous traditional liposuction procedures whose results were unsatisfactory.
Local anesthesia is used, thus shortening the hospital stay.
The procedure begins with a small incision (or several, depending on the case) through which a laser-equipped cannula is inserted. This cannula, an optical fiber that conducts laser light transcutaneously, is used to deliver light to the skin. The specific emission of the laser type used destroys fat tissue and achieves significant skin tightening. The fat cells are gradually destroyed by the heat. The fat is then eliminated naturally by the body or suctioned out with a cannula. In addition to fat removal, laser lipolysis improves skin firmness and stimulates collagen production.
Life will return to normal almost immediately, in just 1 or 2 days.
This technique strengthens and tightens the skin, preventing wrinkles or sagging after the procedure—symptoms that can sometimes occur with liposuction. Furthermore, with a healthy lifestyle, the results will last for years.
